(newsvine) In elections for a seat in the local government of Basel-Stadt no candidate reached the absolute majority in the first round, according to the results of those votes entered by "snail-mail", which represent usually over 90% of all. Two women wanted to replace Jürg Schild, stepping down as the political head of the policedepartement: Saskia Frei, FDP (liberal), competed against Agatha Wirth, "anti-poverty-list". For now the absolute majority would be 21340, Saskia Frei received 18041, Agatha Wirth 12856, as mentioned by Radio X. In a first reaction the president of the local FDP, Urs Schweizer, accused the media for being responsible for the result. He argued that by repeatedly bringing up the business-involvement of Saskia Freis husband, Felix Moppert, with night-clubs and possible brothels the media harmed the candidates reputation. Schweizer said that these kinds of subjects would never crop up, if a man would have been the candidate. Moppert is in the board of directors of two places, connected to redlight activities. During her campaign, he repeatedly stated that he saw no reason to even think about stepping down from these, before his wife is elected and eventually would become the new political head of the local policedepartement.
