patpatpat, 8. April 2003 um 21:28:24 MESZ "This is what we do the best" Aktuelle Ausgabe der "Sandy Times" (2.4.03), der Zeitung für die britischen Truppen im Irakkrieg, über eine Panzerschlacht bei Basra: THE biggest tank battle fought by the British since the Second World War was over in minutes. When they ventured from the shelter of Basra to take on the British, the ancient Russia-made T55 tanks were wiped out by 14 British Challenger 2 tanks armed with depleted uranium shells. Central command in Qatar said: “There were 14 of ours and 14 of theirs. The final score was 14 nil. It was an away fixture and the away team won.” (...) The Challenger 2 formation also took out four companies of infantry. Up to 100 Iraqi soldiers were killed. (...) A Scottish Dragoon Guards soldier said: “This is what we’ve been waiting for. This is what we do the best. Until now we feel as though we’ve been left on the sidelines but we have some serious tank-on-tank action that has really got the guys buzzing.” ... link (no comments) ... comment

lava, 8. April 2003 um 20:56:15 MESZ Abt. Sars attacks! This conference is hosted jointly by the Global Public Affairs Institute (New York) and the Science Media Centre (London) and is primarily for scientists, journalists and senior public relations and public affairs practitioners working in science-based, technology and biotech industries. The event is sponsored by Abbott Laboratories and Johnson & Johnson. The conference will explore how best to get accurate information into the public domain, so the benefits and possible risks associated with scientific advances can be well understood. It will also look at how scientists can improve their communication strategy; and how PR practitioners can enhance the quality of information flowing to interested groups and the public at large. The Global Public Affairs Institute hosts an annual conference in Europe. Its membership includes some of the world’s most prominent companies, including BP, Coca-Cola, Dow Chemical, ExxonMobil, Ford Motor Credit, Pfizer, Shell and Unilever; as well as industry associations such as the Biotechnology Industry Organization and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). The Science Media Centre is an independent body based in London promoting the voices, stories and views of the scientific community to the news media. It aims to help renew public trust in science by promoting a more balanced, accurate and rational coverage of controversial science stories. ... link (no comments) ... comment

patpatpat, 8. April 2003 um 13:50:48 MESZ Abt. Tilgner, Kopf einziehen! I FOXNews: At least five journalists were injured Tuesday when U.S. forces fired upon their hotel in central Baghdad. The Americans were seeking to retaliate against snipers they said were shooting at them from the hotel's roof. The U.S. agreed later not to fire on the 18-story Palestine Hotel, where many members of the international media are staying to cover the war (und auf dessen Dach die Livecams stehen). Journalists fled to the courtyard, and American troops said reporters should hang white sheets out the window of their rooms. U.S. troops said they were taking fire from snipers in the hotel and could see men on the roof with binoculars surveying their positions. Und die NZZ weiss gar: Getroffen wurde der 15. Stock des Hotels, wo auch der ZDF und DRS-Korrespondent Tilgner wohnt. ... link (no comments) ... comment
