Abt. Plastik sucks - heute: Bisphenol A
Plastikflaschen, Kinderspielzeug, Büchsenfood, aber auch CDs und DVDs aus Polycarbonat oder PVC sind ab sofort zu meiden. Schoppenflaschen? Entsorgen! Warum? Sie (bei Büchsen: die Innenverkleidung) bestehen zu einem grossen Teil aus Biphenol A. Die Chemikalie is not good for you - maybe:

A federal health agency acknowledged (pdf!) for the first time yesterday concerns that a chemical found in thousands of everyday products such as baby bottles and compact discs may cause cancer and other serious disorders.

schreibt die Washington Post (dito LA Times). Bisphenol ist einer der Stoffe auf dem Radar des Schweizerischen NFP50, denn der Stoff kann in Lebewesen wie Hormone wirken und sie schädigen. In Mäuseweibchen hat er z.B. die Entwicklung ihrer Milchdrüsen negativ beeinflusst. Diese hormonähnlichen Stoffe heissen auch "Endocrine Disruptor Chemicals" (EDC). Etwas verstörend, was in der Schlusszusammenfassung eines der NFP50-Projekte steht:

With the help of Nestlé-Nutrition, we will evaluate the benefit of nutritional interventions during the perinatal period meant to prevent or repair the damages encountered during foetal life due to exposure to EDC’s. Nutritional interventions may represent an acceptable mean to correct these damages.

"perinatal period" = zwischen der 28. Schwangerschaftswoche und dem 7. Tag nach der Geburt. Das heisst doch wohl, dass das Forscherteam zusammen mit Nestlé Nahrungsmittelzusätze für Neugeborene (und Schwangere) entwickeln will, die jene Schäden reparieren sollen, die das Kind als Foetus erlitten hat dadurch, dass seine Mutter EDCs ausgesetzt war. Functional Food gegen Umweltgifte? Läuft das unter Innovation bei Nestlé?
